Access Statement for Deepdale Farm Tourism Facilities
including Backpackers Hostel, Campsite, Tipis and Group Hostel

Introduction

We aim to provide an accessible site to all our guests and to have staff and equipment to help provide any assistance that is needed.

Pre-Arrival

  • We have a bus stop about 50 yards from our front door. The buses are not wheelchair accessible.
  • The nearest train station to us is about 20 miles from us. A taxi can take guests to our site.
  • We can be contacted via our website, phone or fax.

Arrival and Car Parking facilities

  • There is a disabled car park area to the front of reception where the main door can be accessed via a sealed path.
  • The rear car park has a rough stone surface.
  • The front car park has a sealed surface.
  • We can assist guests with luggage.
  • Our site is set in the village and has easy access to a small supermarket, café and 2 pubs.

Main Entrance and Reception

  • The front door to the reception has a grate with a rubber mat over it. The door is heavy but staff can help with holding the door. The path leading to it is sealed.
  • The rear door to the reception has a small lip to go over and a step down. The path leading to it is a rough stone surface.
  • There is a chair in reception so guests can rest. There are 3 moveable stands holding display stock so these can be moved for an easy access.
  • The access road up to the accommodation block has a small speed hump which is easy to go over and is well lit.
  • There is a doorbell set at a low height so it can be rung if assistance is needed.

Public Areas - General (Internal)

  • The site is made up of different surfaces. Staff can give assistance if needed.

Stables Backpackers Hostel

  • The hostel has a brick path leading to the kitchen door and the hostel accommodation block.
  • The kitchen has a lowered sink and stove top for easy access.
  • Easy access can be gained to both the kitchen and the living room. The living room is connected to the kitchen and is accessed by going down 3 steps. There is an outside door that can be used to enter the living area with no steps.
  • Two dorm rooms have been equipped with a wet room and small sinks. The toilets have fold down arm rests.
  • To gain access to the first floor, there are wooden stairs leading to it.
  • These rooms have low lying single beds and one is a double.
  • Our Cartshed rooms on the ground floor have double beds with a single bunk over the top and a user friendly en-suite shower room. These rooms have easy access bed lights so the room light can be turned off and guests can stay in bed.
  • The doorways are wide for easy access.
  • Staff live on site and can give assistance if needed.
  • Guide dogs are welcomed on site and in all rooms and areas.

Granary Group Hostel

  • This building has 3 steps leading down to the sunken building. It has no wheelchair access as the building is very old and not suitable for conversion.
  • There are 3 small steps leading from the outside up to the accommodation floor. This could be used as an alternative to the main entrance.

Campsite

  • The campsite has a grass surface and it is quite solid.
  • Both shower blocks have disabled access to a shower and toilets.
  • Sinks have easy use taps.
  • The lower toilet block has a cement path and a small ramp up to the toilet and shower.
  • Staff are on hand to give assistance.

Tipi

  • Tipis are set on decking. One is set higher than the other.
  • Tipis have to be accessed by bending to get into them.
  • Guests have access to the same loo facilities as the campers.

Laundry

  • This building has a ramp leading up to it and can be accessed on a sealed ramp.
  • Washing machine, dryer and sink are set low for easy access.

Grounds

  • The village has a sealed footpath heading to the west which is wheel chair accessible.
  • The coastal footpath and Stewardship walks are maintained and have no low lying branches over the path. These paths are not really wheelchair friendly.
  • The local café and pubs are all easy access.

Additional Information

  • On site, the staff are first aid and fire trained.
  • If the fire alarm sounds, the fire marshals do assist in the evacuation process.
  • We can supply a small fridge to store medication which staff only have access to.
