Deepdale Bike Hire – Opening This Weekend

We don’t like to sit still at Deepdale, both physically and with business development.  The latest addition to the offering is Deepdale Bike Hire, which opens its doors this weekend.

Deepdale Bike Hire at Deepdale Farm, Burnham Deepdale, North Norfolk Coast, England

Visitors to the north Norfolk coast have been requesting cycle hire for a long time, but it’s been hard to find the right person to take on the challenge.  That all changed when Alyson Roxburgh visited Deepdale and fell in love with the village, the coast and the countryside.  Alyson felt it was the right place for a life change and a new business.

Deepdale Bike Hire can supply bikes for all the family, plus all those necessary accessories like trailers, tagalongs, child seats and buggies.  Alyson has developed a series of self guided routes and will be running guided tours at various times during the year.

Deepdale Bike Hire at Deepdale Farm, Burnham Deepdale, North Norfolk Coast, EnglandBicycles will be available for hire throughout the year, so perfect for those wanting an active short break out of season or a family visiting during the school holidays.  There isn’t a better way to explore and enjoy the culture and rich heritage of this wonderful area, including Barrow Common, Burnham Thorpe (Nelson’s birthplace), Burnham Market and Burnham Overy Staithe and many more interesting villages.  It’s easy to link to the National Cycle Route 1 riding along quiet lanes from Burnham Deepdale.

“Deepdale Bike Hire is a brilliant addition to our facilities at Deepdale.  We’ve been looking for the right person to take up the challenge and look forward to working with Alyson.  Bicycle hire fits so well with both the hostels & campsite of Deepdale Backpackers & Camping and the shops & café of Dalegate Market.  Another great reason to visit this wonderful part of the world!” said Jason Borthwick, Diversification Partner of Deepdale Farm.

Deepdale Bike Hire looks forward to supplying bicycles to those staying at the neighbouring Deepdale Backpackers & Camping and in local holiday cottages, hotels and B&Bs.  It’s easy to reach Deepdale by the Coasthopper bus service, meaning you don’t have to drive anywhere during your visit to the north Norfolk coast.

Anyone interested in hiring bikes can get more information by visiting www.deepdalebikehire.co.uk or by calling Alyson on 07747 618424.

Happy 9th Birthday to Deepdale Backpackers & Camping

Birthday Candles - Happy 9th Birthday to Deepdale Backpackers & Camping
Happy Birthday
Deepdale Backpackers & Camping

Today is the 9th birthday of the multi-award winning and hugely successful Deepdale Backpackers & Camping.

Happy 9th Birthday to Deepdale Backpackers & Camping9 years ago to the day, guests were arriving for the opening party, which included fireworks, dodgems and a proper backpackers BBQ.

That first year about 5,000 people came to stay in the backpackers hostel, campsite and group hostel.

9 years on, Deepdale welcomes over 50,000 visitors each year and goes from strength to strength.

This month sees the opening of the new Woodview tipi & yurt field, meaning the glamping offering on the north Norfolk coast is wonderfully catered for.

The backpackers hostel still offers great value ensuite rooms and the camping is more popular now than it’s ever been.  The tipis and yurts are busy throughout the year, who wouldn’t want to sleep in luxury with a woodburning stove and glorious views of Deepdale Farm.

Louise and Andrea who have run the tourism side of Deepdale Farm for over 3 years, have made their home in Norfolk having moved down from the North West.  They’ve joined the growing number of tenants in Deepdale, running diverse businesses from clothing shops to Deepdale Café and nature viewing to local artwork.

“We and our dogs love this part of the world and are enjoying welcoming people to our hostels and campsite.  There’s not much better than discovering the north Norfolk coast at any time of year and to be able to live and work here is perfect.” said Louise Smith.

Deepdale Cycle Hire will also be open by Easter, run by Alyson who has decided to start her own business after years in teaching.  One Stop Nature Shop opened it’s door just before Christmas, run by Richard and offering everything you need for enjoying the incredible nature on the North Norfolk Coast.

“Burnham Deepdale, with just 40 permanent residents, used to be a sleepy part of the north Norfolk coast.  Now the place is buzzing, and Deepdale Backpackers & Camping and the shops and café of Dalegate Market are a major hub of the north Norfolk coast.” said Jason Borthwick, son of the father and son team that have developed the facilities.  “We’ve enjoyed developing Deepdale and there are still lots of ideas in the pipeline!”

With the 10th Anniversary happening in 2013 and the new ideas developing nicely, there will be lots more news from Deepdale over the next few years.

North Norfolk Coast Earth Day – EVENT CANCELLED

Sadly we’ve decided to cancel the North Norfolk Coast Earth Day 2012.  With the uncertainty of feed-in tariffs and nervous economic situation, there hasn’t been enough commitment from stand holders to make the event successful.

Rather than disappointing either stand holders or visitors to the event, the team at Deepdale Backpackers & Camping and Deepdale Farm have decided to cancel the April event and to redesign the day with the plan to relaunch in 2013.  We’ll be in touch with information in due course.

Despite the disappointment of no North Norfolk Coast Earth Day in 2012 and the doom & gloom in the press about the economic situation, Deepdale is still developing and investing.  Deepdale Backpackers & Camping are launching their new Woodview Glamping Field, featuring tipis and yurts taking in the stunning views of Deepdale Farm.  The Farm are investing in a PV installation.  Dalegate Market will soon be announcing the first batch of confirmed stalls for the massively successful Deepdale Christmas Market.

Deepdale Christmas Market – A Huge Success

Last weekend’s Deepdale Christmas Market was a huge success, with thousands of new and return visitors to Dalegate Market in Burnham Deepdale.  Visitors came from as far afield as Scandinavia for a wonderful weekend of festive cheer on the north Norfolk coast.

“After a year of planning, it was fantastic to see so many people enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the market.  I talked to hundreds of the visitors and everyone had found things to buy.  Lots of people are going to be receiving lovely Christmas presents this year!” said Estelle Townshend, one of the organisers.

Saturday was the busiest day, and the site was continually busy throughout the day.  It helped that the sun came out and there was an almost tropical feel to the place in comparison to the below -5C temperatures Norfolk experienced the year before.  The Norwich Ukulele Society and the Hunstanton Concert Band entertained the crowds, while the St Mary’s Carollers and the Brancaster School Choir Club entertained with carols.

“The charities we supported this year, had a great event.  Over £1000 were raised in total, with the RNLI selling cards and gifts, Brancaster School running a tombola, Norfolk Wildlife Trust and the RSPB collecting membership and the St Mary’s Carollers selling mulled wine and collecting donations for the Benjamin Foundation.” said Alister Borthwick

Sunday was calmer, but still busy.  Deepdale Café’s delicious paella sold even more on Sunday, the lovely smells wafting around Dalegate Market must have helped the sales!  Fakenham Town Band entertained in the afternoon, with brass band festive tunes.

“Deepdale Christmas Market is a great opportunity to remind everyone that the north Norfolk coast is wonderful throughout the year.  Yes it’s really lovely in the Summer when the sun is shining, but it’s also glorious when you’re wrapped up warm and have time to explore.” said Jason Borthwick.  “Of course this part of the world is also a great place to shop, eat and drink!  The Deepdale Christmas Market draws people away from the car park queues in Norwich, letting them see that a drive or bus to Burnham Deepdale means they can do their Christmas shopping and have a wonderful, stress free day out!”

Plans for 2012’s Deepdale Christmas Market will begin to take shape in the new year, but make sure you have the 1st & 2nd December 2012 in your diaries for another festive visit to Burnham Deepdale!  In the meantime watch www.deepdalechristmasmarket.co.uk to keep up to date with the plans for next years event.

Two Weeks Until Christmas Really Starts

Everyone knows Christmas doesn’t start until December, even if a few advertisers jump the gun.

There can be no better place during the festive season than the West End of the North Norfolk Coast.  This beautiful part of the world is already famous for its seafood, great pubs, beautiful beaches and shopping, but for those in the know, it’s also the best place to get Christmas started.

With a combination of the Fakenham Christmas Tree Festival, Holkham’s ‘Victorian Christmas Celebration’, Creake Abbey’s Christmas Farmers’ Market and the Deepdale Christmas Market you have a wonderful opportunity to eat, drink and complete your Christmas shopping all in one weekend.

 Fakenham Christmas Tree Festival

Fakenham Parish Church holds its 11th Christmas Tree Festival from Thursday 1st to Thursday 8th December 2011 between 10am and 8pm daily.  This ever popular occasion attracted 25,000 people last year and raised over £18,000 for charities mostly in small coins!  This year 78 charities will be taking part and there will be 90 trees!  Entrance to the Festival is Free, but please bring a bag of coins to donate to the charity trees of your choice.  Inside there will be a Christmas Bazaar selling a wide range of Christmas goods; also refreshments, a Tombola and a Grand Draw.  According to Norfolk Tourist Board, ‘This is a spectacular event not to be missed’ – www.fakenhamparishchurch.org.uk

Holkham Hall in the Snow

It will be a truly a wonderful experience for visitors to Holkham Hall on 3 and 4 December for a ‘Victorian Christmas Celebration’, as Queen Victoria arrives to stay for Christmas.  Inside the wonderfully decorated hall, musicians will lead for dances and traditional carols will be sung, games played and stories told by the fireside.  A daring fire breather will perform, redcoat soldiers will keep guard and in the kitchens, cooks and household staff will be found bustling to get the royal feast prepared.  All will be captured for posterity by period photographic camera and techniques.  Florence Nightingale will drop by to recruit more nurses and the Holly King, sitting beneath his Christmas Tree, will give out gifts to the children. – www.holkham.co.uk

Creake Abbey’s Christmas Farmers’ Market

Hundreds of ingredients produced and made in Norfolk will be for sale at Creake Abbey’s Christmas Farmers’ Market, North Creake on Saturday 3rd December from 9.30am – 1pm.  Over 45 producers are booked to attend.  Together with the regulars the market is welcoming Godwick Turkeys and Norfolk Saffron.  To inspire you to give this years’ Christmas dishes an interesting Norfolk twist, top local chefs including Richard Bainbridge will be demonstrating some of their favourite recipes.  The producers will be offering tastings galore plus all the info you might need to make an informed purchase.  Cookery demonstrations in the workshop on the car park start at 10am. – www.creakeabbey.co.uk

Deepdale Christmas Market

The annual Deepdale Christmas Market welcomes over 50 stalls to Burnham Deepdale to join Dalegate Market’s shops & Deepdale Café on both Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th December from 10am to 4pm.  The stalls & shops offer presents, decorations, food & drink, cheese, clothing, jewellery, cupcakes, photography and you can even buy your Christmas trees.  There will be a wonderful selection of refreshments available from Deepdale Café, including paella, mulled wine, paninis and their usual great food & cakes.  Entertainment includes the Norwich Ukulele Society, Fakenham Town Band and Hunstanton Concert Band who are joined by carollers.  FREE entry. – www.deepdalechristmasmarket.co.uk

For those around on Friday evening, then a visit to The Jolly Sailors, Brancaster Staithe for their Sausage Fest would be a great addition to a weekend of festive cheer. – www.jollysailors.co.uk

New Business Opportunity on the North Norfolk Coast

Opportunities for shop units on the north Norfolk coast don’t come about very often, especially in sought after places like Burnham Deepdale.  So there is significant interest in the unit that is soon to become available at Dalegate Market, the shopping centre, café and petrol station on the A149 coast road.

“We’re really sad that Little Giggles will be closing at the end of the month.  The team from that shop and the toys they sell will be sorely missed.  But all sad departures are also an interesting opportunity to try something new and the enquiries began almost before we advertised the shop.” said Jason Borthwick, partner of Dalegate Market.

“Dalegate works really well, because there’s a group of individual, unique shops and businesses, who work together to make Dalegate Market a real hub of the north Norfolk coast.  When we decide on a new tenant for the shop unit, we’ll choose a business that compliments the other shops, the café, the supermarket and the tourism facilities of Deepdale Backpackers & Camping.”

The site receives hundreds of thousands of visitors a year and bucks the trend of small villages losing their facilities.  In fact Burnham Deepdale and its twin village Brancaster Staithe support a really diverse range of businesses and facilities, including two pubs, a hotel, holiday cottages, a sailing school, a sailing club, the shops and café of Dalegate Market, backpackers hostel, campsite, B&Bs, fish shop, harbour seafood stall, Post Office, a busy church and is becoming one of the major stops on the Coasthopper bus route.

“There’s no reason for communities to lose their hearts, as long as there is an effort to try new things and welcome visitors who support the shops and services.  Brancaster Staithe and Burnham Deepdale have lots of passionate people, all of which makes the village a more attractive place to live, work and visit.”

Dalegate Market | Shopping & Café is also the home to the Deepdale Christmas Market – www.deepdalechristmasmarket.co.uk

Businesses interested in the shop unit should contact Deepdale Farms, Tel: 01485 210036 or www.deepdaleproperty.co.uk

Visitors interested in visiting Brancaster Staithe and Burnham Deepdale will find an excellent range of information on www.burnhamdeepdale.co.uk

Looking Ahead to Christmas on the North Norfolk Coast

Deepdale Christmas Market 2011

Deepdale Christmas Market
Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th December
www.deepdalechristmasmarket.co.uk

It may be the height of the Summer season and incredibly busy in the coastal village of Burnham Deepdale, but thoughts are already turning to Christmas. Preparations for the Deepdale Christmas Market are going well.

All the stall spaces for the Deepdale Christmas Market have been filled. That’s over 40 stalls, who will join the permanent shops of Dalegate Market and Deepdale Café, welcoming visitors on the first weekend of December. Great food & drink, Christmas decorations & presents, plenty of festive spirit!

“I’ve had some very strange looks from people when I’ve dropped off leaflets about the Christmas Market, but we want visitors to know the market is happening, so they can plan their return visit in December. It does seem a little strange mentioning Christmas when campers are enjoying the summer sun, but events like Deepdale Christmas Market don’t happen without a lot of pre planning.” said Jason Borthwick, one of the organising team.

Now the hunt begins for entertainment over the weekend. Hunstanton Concert Band are already booked for Christmas Carols on the Saturday from 2pm to 4pm. St Mary’s Carollers, from the village church, will be joining the band and supplying carol sheets for anyone who fancies a sing-a-long. There’s also a possibility that the local school choir will be performing during the weekend.

The team are keen to hear from any groups or individuals who might be interested in entertaining the visitors at Deepdale Christmas Market.

Deepdale Christmas Market takes place on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th December 2011 at Dalegate Market in Burnham Deepdale on the beautiful north Norfolk coast. The market opens at 10am on both days and closes at 4pm. Full details of the event can be found on the website: www.deepdalechristmasmarket.co.uk
